As a responsible corporate citizen, AFGRI is committed to the development and upliftment of South African communities.

AFGRI invests in the following four key focus areas:
  • Agriculture and food security – projects contribute to skills development and positive livelihood interventions e.g. vegetable gardens.
  • Education – infrastructure progress and teacher support, with a specific focus on rural and peri-urban schools.
  • Environment – incorporates access to water as well as environmental awareness and education.
  • Poverty Alleviation and Welfare - priority is given to orphaned and vulnerable children along with destitute women.

The annual CSI budget is allocated in line with the BEE Codes of Good Practice. A CSI Committee has been established to assess all application requests based on set criteria. Organisations applying for support should complete the application form, have an NPO registration certificate, confirmation from SARS regarding tax status, proof of bank account (cancelled cheque or bank letter) as well as latest annual financial statements.

The Gauteng Department of Education and AFGRI encourage healthy eating for school learners

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) in partnership with AFGRI Limited (“AFGRI”), the leading listed South African agricultural services group, is pleased to announce the launch of their food garden programme at Ponelopele/ Oracle Secondary School, in Midrand.

As a result of AFGRI’s support, The Gauteng Department of Education has embarked on a food garden programme that will benefit 18,466 learners, involving eleven schools in the Johannesburg East District.  Six schools are located in the Ivory Park and five are in the Alexandra areas.

The objectives of the food gardens are to supplement the nutritional programme’s at the schools by supplying fresh vegetables and to give learners the opportunity to participate in the growing of vegetables in order to entrench a culture of growing one’s own food.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Chris Venter, CEO of AFGRI, says, “As a responsible corporate citizen, AFGRI is committed to the development and upliftment of South African communities and continues to acknowledge that education is key by providing support and upgrading poorly resourced schools as part of AFGRI Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme.”

AFGRI touches the lives of primary school pupils at Fundisisa Combined School

AFGRI Limited (“AFGRI”), the leading listed South African agricultural services group, is pleased to announce the official opening of AFGRI sponsored facilities at Fundisisa Combined School in Dryden, in Mpumalanga.

Fundisisa Combined School was established by a local farmer seventeen years ago for farm workers’ children. The school currently has 261 learners from Grade 0 – Grade 9 and eight teachers.

As a result of AFGRI’s sponsorship, Fundisisa Combined School enjoys a new entrance gate, nine renovated classrooms, a library, a netball court, new desks and chairs, three computers, a security wall around the school premises, a vegetable garden to supplement the school’s nutritional programme and an approved Fundisisa Combined School teacher learner ratio via subsidising a teacher’s salary.

Investing in Fundisisa Combined School is a perfect fit for AFGRI as AFGRI supports projects in selected focus areas namely agriculture; infrastructural development in primary schools; food gardens; environmental conservation and water provision.
