By the year 2050 the world’s population is expected to reach
9 billion people and Africa is in a unique position to address world
food security. It is a continent with rich agricultural land and abundant
opportunities to focus investments into agriculture capacity in
order to assist in meeting future world food needs.
Africa needs to realize its potential for agriculture. Our vision to become a significant role player in the continent’s
food security is strengthened by specialised skills in the agricultural supply chain. In collaboration with various developmental
financial institutions and donor/aid organisations, AFGRI actively promotes and supports the Southern African
Development Community (SADC) and Common Market of Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) member countries’

Retail, equipment and mechanisation
- provides or sources
a full range of agricultural inputs,
home and garden, outdoor and DIY
products, selected building materials
and services to farmers, small-holding

Insurance - a composite insurance
brokerage specialising in both short
term and long term insurance which
includes both personal lines as well
as commercial lines.
Broking - AFGRI has one of the
largest agricultural commodity
trading operations in South Africa
which offers a wide range of derivative
products linked to the SA Futures Exchange (SAFEX) and access to
international futures markets, such as
the Chicago and Kansas City Boards
of Trade.
Grain Management - offers
secure storage of agricultural
products throughout South Africa
and Zambia. Current infrastructure
comprises 67 grain silos in South
Africa. Grain is handled and stored
separately according to grade
and other characteristics, with
non-GMO grain being a specific
example of this practice. Bunker
silos, a new technology recently
introduced into South Africa, of
which AFGRI has 9 complexes,
provides temporary storage facilities
when required. AFGRI has a total
storage capacity of more than 4.3
million tons. Through world-class

storage and electronic silo certificates,

Animal Feeds - is a national feed
supplier with seven processing animal feeds mills across the country and
capacities in excess of one million
tons per annum. AFGRI Animal
Feeds ensures maximum profitability
for dairy, poultry, beef, sheep and
game producers by using the latest
technology and advanced nutritional
expertise.
Poultry – AFGRI Poultry consists of
abattoir facilities capable of process
more than 1 million broilers per
week and focuses on supplying the
independent wholesale market and
major retail chains with frozen
chickens under the “Superior” brand.
Broilers are grown on own farms
and by contract growers and day-old
chicks are produced in a state-of-theart
hatchery through Midway Chix,
a broiler breeder operation.
Nedan – extracts oil from raw cotton
seed and soya beans, processing the
oil and various other raw materials
from these products into edible oils, fats
and high-protein textured vegetable
products for the food processing and
fast food industries. Nedan Oil is
the market leader in texturised soya
protein for human consumption and
oil cake for the animal feeds industry.
