PURPOSE OF QUALIFICATION
The qualification provides learners with the opportunity to gain competence in poultry production, assisting them in running a successful poultry business and facilitating their ability to secure employment in the industry. For those who are already employed in a poultry production farm, the multi-skilling that the qualification offers will open a career path in the industry.
The qualification will allow learners to:
- Monitor and manage the poultry house environment
- Allocate and manage poultry feeding programmes
- Manage the bio-security programmes on the poultry farm
- Monitor the health of poultry
- Inspect, weigh and ensure that the poultry are within the required performance standards
- Compile records and construct basic graphs of growth, consumption and other statistics
- Perform farm management functions
The qualification will equip the learner with the necessary skills to manage a poultry production unit on a farm.

- Demonstrate an understanding of basic health management practices on poultry holdings

- Understand vaccine handling and vaccination practices for poultry
- Maintain bio-security in poultry production
MODULE 2: POULTRY HOUSEKEEPING
- Clean and prepare the poultry house for a new flock
- Maintain water for poultry production
- Perform and administer record-keeping functions in poultry production
- Manage a poultry production facility
- Lead a team, plan, allocate and assess their work
- Apply self-management through the concepts of Positive Self-esteem and Resiliency
MODULE 3: POULTRY PRODUCTION
- Demonstrate basic understanding of the poultry production industry
- Show an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of poultry
- Demonstrate an understanding of poultry nutrition
- Manage the care of commercial layers
- Manage the production of table eggs
MODULE 4: COMMUNICATION
- Access and use information from written texts
- Maintain and adapt oral communication

MODULE 5: MATHEMATICS
- Apply basic knowledge of statistics and probability to influence the use of data and procedures in order to investigate “real life” related problems
