AFGRI CSI

At AFGRI we are keen to embrace our role as a good corporate citizen and has, since 2011, through various initiatives, had a positive impact on the youth, emerging and commercial farmers as well as the communities in which we operate.

We consider corporate social investment (CSI) an integral part of our business and provide numerous resources, including equipment, volunteering time and funding to a variety of youth and community projects through our operations with the aim of stimulating and supporting social economic upliftment in Africa.

Employee Community Initiatives

Saturday Accounting Tutorial Classes

Employees tutor Grade 10 and 11 learners in accounting on Saturdays at Steve Tshwete Secondary School in Olivenhoutsbosch in Centurion, Pretoria. Grade 10 pass rate has improved from 23% in 2013 to 60% in 2014 and 72.5% in 2015. Grade 11 pass rate has improved from 30.2% in 2013 to 60% in 2014 and 86.52% in 2015.

Mandela Day

Employees participate in numerous projects in support of this worthy initiative. In 2013 and 2014, 980 square meters of pavement was completed at Philena Primary School in Olivenhoutbosch. In 2015, two vegetable gardens were established at Saulridge Secondary School in Atteridgeville and Child Academy in Tembisa to supplement school feeding schemes.

AFGRI “Warming Hearts” Blanket Drive

This is an annual project to encourage employees to donate blankets to those who are less fortunate. Beneficiaries include Huis Janre (Centurion), Miriam Makeba Shelter for Girls (Ebony Park), Child-Headed Households in Atteridgeville and Tumelo Home for the Disabled in Ivory Park. 206 blankets were donated through this worthy initiative.

AFGRI Mentorship Programme

40 learners from East Bank High in Alexandra and Steve Tshwete Secondary School in Olivenhoutbosch participated in the Programme from 2013 to 2015. 3 students from the Programme were awarded full bursary from the AFGRI Bursary Scheme for their tertiary qualifications.80 learners are currently being mentored and participating in the Programme from 2016 to 2018.

Blood Donation Drives

Employees donate blood to the South African National Blood Services on a quarterly basis.184 pints of blood were donated.

Special Festive Drive

Employees donated party packs and toys for the residents of Tumelo Home for the Disabled in Ivory Park.26 residents benefited from this initiative.

AFGRI Raising Leaders Initiative

The aim of this mentorship programme is to foster relationships between male leaders from AFGRI and selected learners, and to expose the learners to different careers in the agricultural sector.

Other Projects

Other projects include Bandana Day to raise funds for the Sunflower Fund and Slipper Day in aid of Reach for a Dream.

Sanitary Pad Initiative

Employees donate sanitary pads for girl learners for disadvantaged backgrounds. 366 sanitary pads packs were donated to Ekwazini Secondary School in Middleburg, Mpumalanga.

AFGRI Girl Power Day

As part of our three-year programme to mentor and empower young girls, AFGRI hosts around 20 learners annually from East Bank High School in Alexandra and Steve Tshwete Secondary School in Oliven- houtsbosch, who spend a day at our head office, being mentored by female employees. Various topics are discussed, including choices of field of study and how and when to apply to tertiary education institutions.
